Job Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in the UT Southwestern Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery divisions at Children’s Health to provide comprehensive, specialty-specific care to pediatric patients with congenital and acquired heart disease.
This is a clinical-programmatic position (non-supervisory) embedded in the CVTS First Assist team, working in close collaboration with the Procedural APP Manager. The focus will be solely on procedural growth, education, and academic development, not directed people management and larger heart center strategic initiatives. This role is uniquely positioned to ensure we continue to deliver exceptional outcomes while optimizing how we train, develop, and utilize our surgical APP workforce.
· Supports critical procedural expansion and operational efficiency without our First Assist APP Program.
· Trains APPs in homograft valve sewing, sterna closure, and organ procurement.
· Elevates onboarding and retention
· Amplifies academic output Across the Heart Center: Leads surgical videography, medical illustration, and mentorship of APP-led research and presentations.
Scheduled Hours: primarily weekdays with some weekends, holiday, and call (organ procurement, 2 days per week)

Experience and Education
Required
Education
· Graduate of a Master’s degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.
· Must maintain clinical privileges and active practice at least one clinical site.
Licenses/Certifications
· Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification required. Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board (PA-C). AND
· Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified by the American Heart Association or Red Cross based on the UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.
Preferred Experience
· Experience as a First Assist pediatric CVTS provider including organ procurement, hand sewn valves, videography, and informal leadership needed.
Job Duties
· Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
· Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
· Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate based on specialty and training.
· Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
· Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
· Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
